In 2021, Monnaie de Paris is highlighting the Alpha Jet, a Franco-German (Dassault-Breguet / Dornier) creation, intended for training or ground attack. It has equipped the Patrouille de France since 1981 and is one of the five aircraft that have marked the history of the Patrouille de France; it contributed to the influence of the French Air Force throughout the world. It is on the occasion of the 40 years of the Alpha Jet within the Patrouille de France but also for the 90 years of this one that we decided to put them both in the honour.
The front shows an Alpha Jet in full flight. In the background, several aircraft can be seen in formation. The words "40 YEARS OF ALPHA JET 1981-2021" refer to the date when the Alpha Jet replaced the Fouga Magister in the Patrouille de France.
For the first time in the Aviation and History series, the face of the silver denominations is coloured with the blue, white and red colours of the French flag on the aircraft and on the plume left in the sky.
The reverse, common to the series, features the profiles of two pilots, symbolising the different eras and types of use: civil and military. In the sky are several aircrafts, also representing the different eras and uses, in a tribute to the history of aviation. The face value is inscribed on the bottom left of the reverse side, as is the symbol “RF”.
